"It's not very quiet there" - the invasion of Al Fawwar refugee camp (photos)

Israeli military jeeps blocking the entrance to Al Fawwar camp.
Unfortunately we did not take a picture of the stalled UN vehicle. We were afraid that the soldiers would use that as a pretext to deny us entry to the camp.
After having gotten past the checkpoint, we took this quick photo.

Traffic is blocked as the camp is closed to all outside forms of assistance.

A group of Israeli soldiers down the street. They were from Hebron and did not like us.

A soldier points me out to his friend, who is seemingly going as the photographer.

A Palestinian medic is told to move along by the soldiers.

A Palestinian man is stopped by the soldiers and questioned.

Palestinian families watch from their roofs at the chaos unfolding below. With the clashes and shooting, being anywhere but above street level would have been a bad idea.

Palestinian men and boys from another house pose for a photo. They are under assault but not broken.

The Israeli Army surrounded the camp, and soldiers were in the hills.

Another Israeli soldier in the grass, watching what is happening in the camp.

Israeli soldiers aim at Palestinian kids below who are yelling at them.

As the woman on the middle balcony observes, Israeli soldiers seize the apartment she lives in and are using it as a military structure.

A Palestinian girl, with clashes taking place around her home, points to teargas cannisters collected by her family that were shot into the neighbourhood. Photo taken by my friend and fellow activist X.

Palestinian children observe the Israeli soldiers. Later, the clashes between children and the soldiers in their area would start.

As Palestinians look on, soldiers use a house as a military structure.

One of the soldiers aims his automatic weapon at us in an attempt (unsuccessful) to intimidate.

An special operations Israeli Border Police officer, dressed in black, engages in battle with young men and youth throwing rocks.

Despite being under siege and not knowing whether or not the soldiers will go into their home next, the first family we visited provided us with this delicious breakfast. This is one of the many reasons why I love Palestine and I love the Palestinian people.
People like these who, in the middle of an assault on their their town, are capable of making you coffee and tea and salad and hummus and looking after you while chaos is happening around them and they, not you, are the ones in real danger.
This is Palestine.

Ambulances waiting for the wounded and the dying.

Palestinian ambulance departing with yet another victim.

Palestinian kids defiantly pose for a photo, after the soldiers had went away.
Occupation and clashes are a part of their childhood.

Palestinian young men and teenagers (left hand side) do battle with the Border Police and Army on the other side of the street. A UN vehicle was allowed to enter- after some 7 hours of waiting at least (counting from the time we arrived).

More soldiers move through the camp. It was impossible to keep track of them all.
